ramadan fest in turkey
The people who is believe to the Islamic religion, celebrate Ramadan every year at same time. I'm one of them. We use the Muslim calendar for set to first day of ramadan. That calendar is different. For example; this year if the first day is today, next year the first day will be after 10 days than last year, according to international calendar. Ramadan start at nineth month of the year according to Muslim calendar.
That month we don't eat anything. this attitude's name is "to fast" in english.Of course there are some religious rules. We wake up before sunrise. We eat especially strong but healthy food, dairyproducts, rice, pasta, egg, cheese or something like that. And then we abstain from eating to sunset. So we don't eat anything between sunrise and sunset. But I have to allow that nowadays a lot of muslim don't fast.Maybe it's normal because of life.Almost every adult person hardwork a long time everyday and you know business life is really tiring and full of stress.I hope that the God thinks like that :)
That month includes some special days. We call the one of them "Kadir Gecesi" .I'm sorry but this word has not translated word from english. It's completely special day for us. Because in the past, the first verse of the Kuran came to our prophet Muhammed from God at that day. The Muslim people pray for everything almost everyday in ramadan.
Finally, end of the month, we celebrate Ramadan Bayram. We wake up earyl in the morning. Men go to mosque for namaz(some kind of worship for muslims). And women and children prepare big, nice, delicious breakfast! Usually men visit to cemetary when they return from mosque. Then all family have a breakfast together. This time always in peaceful and full of happiness. After that especially young people visit to old relatives or the people who are stay in hospital or nursing home. Children knock to neighbour's doors and wish best things and the neighbours give candies, coins, chocolate or some little presents to them. Thence sometimes we call this month "candy fest" :)
